Training to Deliver the Best Education
Professional Development for Supervising Teachers
Calvert Navigator provides a comprehensive professional development program for your Supervising Teachers to help them take full advantage of all that Calvert has to offer. Key to academic success is the daily involvement of the Supervising Teacher. Although students are being educated outside a traditional classroom, they have ongoing and systematic guidance from your state-certified teacher.
Our Professional Development Coordinator works with you and your teachers ensure that all have the knowledge they need to successfully educate students and make the most of Calvert’s curriculum and resources. Our introductory seminar includes a guided tour of the Calvert curriculum, the responsibilities of the academic team, and an understanding of our education philosophy and methods. Technology seminars introduce My Calvert, technology-based instruction, online communication tools, and the Calvert Student Information Service. Our Learning Maps seminar covers placement, benchmarks, remediation, intervention, and assessments.
Once you have appointed your Supervising Teacher(s), your Calvert Program Manager will arrange Professional Development Sessions to help your team understand all of the academic elements of the Calvert program. Calvert keeps your academic team “current” with a series of professional development online sessions that provide a thorough orientation to a Calvert education. In fact, Calvert provides training for Supervising Teachers and for Learning Guides so they may fully take advantage of all that Calvert has to offer. Our comprehensive training sessions ensure that all members of the team are knowledgeable about Calvert’s education philosophy and methods, our print and online resources and materials, and our technology and assessment tools.
Current Sessions
Session 1: Orientation to the Calvert Method
Calvert has been the trusted leader in distance education for more than a century. We’ve established a standard of excellence that inspires each student to achieve his or her academic best. This introductory seminar focuses on the philosophy and unique strengths of the Calvert program. This session includes a guided tour of the lesson flow and a Calvert curriculum overview. Also covered are the roles and responsibilities of the Supervising Teacher, the Learning Guide, Calvert Education Counselor, the Calvert Advisory Teacher, as well as the Student.
Session 2: Getting the Most out of Calvert’s Technology
In addition to core knowledge skills, today’s learners must use technology to access information, work with data and communicate with teachers and peers in a virtual environment. Calvert has developed a blended learning experience that combines online resources with physical texts and manuals. This experience provides multiple approaches and systems to enhance the academic journey. This seminar will help your Supervising Teachers, Learning Guides, and students maximize the use of their My Calvert online portal and its many resources and tools. This session includes an overview of My Calvert, technology-based instruction, online communications tools, and the Calvert Student Information Service (online grade book, attendance tracking, and pacing tools).
Session 3: Learning Maps
Calvert provides daily, monthly, and annual benchmarking and assessment tools to ensure content mastery. Regular interaction with your Supervising Teacher and Education Counselor provide for immediate intervention if needed. Through continual planning and evaluation, teachers and parents are assured of favorable outcomes and academic progress. This session covers the Calvert Learning Map including placement, benchmarks, remediation, intervention, and assessments.
Delivery of Professional Development Sessions
Archived
If gathering your academic team at a specific time is a challenge due to busy schedules, you may consider using Calvert’s archived Professional Development sessions. All sessions are available as pre-recorded webinars which are available for access at any time. This delivery mode would be useful for initial training as well as mid-year training. This is also a useful method that allows new and additional staff to participate in the training at later dates.
Live Remote
Electronic learning events, often called webinars and web shops, take place on the Web. Calvert Synchronous Teacher Trainings occur in real time. They include one or more presenters and learners logged on to their computers and (usually) also communicating on the phone. Learners prepare in advance by logging onto the website and learning navigation tools that allow them to submit questions, respond to polls, and evaluate the training.
Live Face-to-Face
Upon request, Calvert offers face-to-face training. This involves one or more Calvert staff members visiting your organization. They will conduct in-person training to the participants at your organization. Content and schedules are typically discussed with your program manager and can be flexible depending on your needs.
In order to set up teacher training for your school or program, contact your Program Manager to discuss what will work best in your situation.
Frequency
Frequency plays a large role in our teacher training. We have the ability to deliver additional teacher training during the school year. We will cover a variety of topics that may be relevant at that time of year. We will also provide teacher training as new updates and additions become a part of our program to ensure teachers have the latest information.
